Although the economy is in the tank, I figure we need to carve out some money for a little vacation once in awhile. I’ve been doing some research into saving money while still having a nice trip. Based on my time spent on several travel sites, it seems that the major online websites all can find good travel deals if I can be a little flexible.

The choice of travel website should not only include finding the lowest price for car, hotel and air travel, you also want a company with a reputation for arranging a vacation without problems.  Then I was thinking about where to go where it’s easy to find good prices on air travel or where I can drive my car. Southern California certainly fits that description.

A lot of vacation ideas are provided at the SoCal Vacation Guru site.  It focuses mainly on Orange County and Los Angeles County, but will eventually expand to provide more information on San Diego County and the Inland Empire desert and mountain areas as well. There is very useful information at the SoCal Vacation Guru on Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, beaches, shopping dining, hotels and other facets of your vacation.

The SoCal theme parks include Disneyland (with Disney’s California Adventure), Knott’s, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld and Legoland. Of course visiting all of those would not be particularly cheap, but you could fit a lot of vacation fun into a short period of time. If your budget allows in this slow economy, you can probably find some great hotel deals, with many hotel operators and other vacation businesses really looking for your patronage.

Theme parks are offering some discounts, and the prices might be a bit lower at museums and other activities as well. Rather than flying to your vacation destination, you may find that, even with the crazy behavior of gasoline prices recently, you can save money by driving to Southern California this year.
